Behrman Tree Project

The Westbank Redevelopment Corporation (WRC), in collaboration with Parks and Parkways and the Louisiana Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects, is working to restore destroyed trees in one of the main corridors of Algiers: the Behrman/Holiday/DeGaulle Corridor.

Thousands of people drive by the Behrman/Holiday/DeGaulle Corridor each day. Katrina destroyed or heavily damaged many of the beautiful trees in this corridor. The Westbank Redevelopment Corporation is utilizing the expertise of New Orleans Parks and Parkways to ensure that both the removal of damaged trees and the replanting is done properly.

The Westbank Redevelopment Corporation was able to recruit Dana Nunez Brown to help with the project. Dana is President of the Louisiana Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects. Her Baton Rouge firm, Brown + Danos Land Design, Inc., has donated time to assist WRC with the overall design plan for the corridor. Dana grew up in New Orleans and wanted to do her part by donating her skills to help the city recover.

This project is a win-win for the community and the organizations working together to make it happen.
